Summary

Max is back! New husband, new job, and a training regime that cannot fail - to go wrong!

Take one interim chief training officer, add five recruits, mix with Joan of Arc, a baby mammoth, a duplicitous father of history, a bombed rat, Stone Age hunters, a couple of passing policemen who should have better things to do, and Dick the Turd. Stir well, bring to the boil and wait for the bang!

Join Max in the sixth instalment in the off-the-wall Chronicles of St Mary's series.

Critic reviews

"[Narrator Zara] Ramm wears her characters' voices like old friends, smoothly dipping into blunt East End accents and coarser tones for the gentlemen." ( AudioFile)

Being honest

I truly think that I may be in love with these ladies. Ms Taylor writes just the most wonderful stories that are a marblecake of wry humour, intrigue, and history. Ms Ramm then bakes that cake to perfection. There are no two other people that I'd rather spend my evenings with!

Solid Jodi Taylor

Another instalment in the chronicles of St Mary's. Slightly better than the last couple as more of a return to comedy and less love story.

Nicely sets up a couple of more books from St Mary's with some intrigue and deception

Formulaic as ever but no less entertaining for it. Worth a credit

Typically good narration from Zara Ramm

Deja Vu All Over Again

I have enjoyed this series, but this is my last book, there isn't enough development of plot or characters we are stuck with the same jokes the same inevitable disasters, the only thing that is fresh is the historical moments where Jody Taylor shines and refreshes the stories we all know with her brilliant storytellers language and ideas, but lamentably is not enough; a formula has to have enough flexibility to develop and some surprises in it, not just a surprise at the end to hook you for the next instalment it should be an invitation not a disclosure on the last page every time.

I loved the reimagined history, but got tired of the infantile repetitive jokes, also if every trip ends with a similar outcome, you stop being emotionally invested, it is just a boring deja vu.

Yet another outing for St Mary's staff.

Love all the books in this series. This one continues the story of Max and her team as new recruits join the team. Egypt, Victorian England and Bosworth Field all appear in this latest adventure.
