nice twists in the storyline kept me guessing almost to the end. This is a salutary tale over the perils of using social media!

second life

A good book with a reasonable story the pace is a little slow and it takes a while to build up to the ending. but a good and we'll thought out plot. well written and a good crime book

Second Life

Wow, what a thriller indeed! Despite some of the somewhat mixed reviews of author SJ Watson's second novel, I was hooked from start to finish. It has a myriad of twists, turns and various red herrings.

Imogen Church's narration is excellent in regard to the female characters, although the male equivalents sound a bit dopey in my opinion. That said, she is able to convey the often tense atmosphere.

Recommended.

Entertaining but a bit slow

I found the same with Before I Go To Sleep, the story is entertaining but takes a while to get going.

A lot of unanswered aspects and characters that you never quite warm too.

Entertaining, but not overly engaging.

Ripping yarn

Far fetched but hooked me in; maybe trying to be a little 50 shades but well written and certainly kept my attention.
Would make a good film!

not much originality but still fairly gripping

Would you try another book written by S J Watson or narrated by Imogen Church?

Yes to both - although it would need to be good to overcome my mild irritation with the narrator.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Second Life?

nothing stands out

What aspect of Imogen Church’s performance might you have changed?

somewhat self pitying when reading as the main character. Weakness was the overriding impression of the lead and not sure this should be the case. The male voices are terrible, especially the husband, Hugh - pompous ass rather than kindly and caring. Unfortunately whilst Ms Church can read with feeling and intonation, she can be a bit whispery or shouty and after a while this grates.

Was Second Life worth the listening time?

Yes, although I had it on in the background and missed the odd minute when distracted.

I have been waiting keenly for this and as with all second novels following a big success, there was a lot to live up to. It didn't. However, don't let me put you off, it was a good yarn and I enjoyed it. There was no question I would not finish it. there are no twists and turns, I was not surprised by anything and really did not like the 'woe is me' lead character Juliet, but I am someone with little tolerance for these self absorbed types we all know far too many of. I did listen to the whole thing in one day, but I am addicted to being read to and have this audiobooks on constantly.

You will either love or hate it. If you like twists and a true fan of intriguing literature. I’m Sure you’ll love this. My attention span can be limited but I listened to every word.
