Summary

Richard Rohr leads us through the social, political and environmental setting out of which Matthew brought Christ’s radical message of a new world order. He explains Matthew’s challenge to let go of the conventional wisdom that comes with contemporary American culture. Each of seven talks brings us closer to the heart of the Sermon.

Rohr contrasts conventional wisdom with the wisdom of Christ and draws the listener into the Kingdom of God, the end of the world and the experience of enlightenment. He explains that each generation lives in end times, that the Kingdom is for those willing to let go of all cultural idolatry (past and present) and that those who live in reality travel a path of life which unfolds into freedom. This series is a powerful call to follow Jesus Christ in the commandments of the New Testament.

Enlightened

Whenever I read or listen to one of Richard Rohr’s books I find myself understanding more clearly the simple and powerful message of Jesus’ teachings! This is an invaluable gift and once again, with this book on The Sermon On The Mount I have partaken of such a gift, a very clear insight to the life and teachings of Jesus - and for this I am truly grateful to you Richard Rohr. I look forward to continuing my spiritual journey, motivated by your writings and talks!! God Bless

amazing but have some concerns

amazing truths but two concerns:
1- jesus had no problem with wealthy people he had problem with wealthy people who where stingy on the kingdom you can see that is the parable of the rich man whos land gave extra that year.
2- also the bible says that we are justified by faith and works not by faith or works alone and saying that someone can go to heaven if he does the works of the kingdom and not have faith in chirst is wrong according to the bible.
bless you man learned a lot man of god

Very good

An older book now as shown by Richard Rohr's comments that date it. However, it is well presented with some humour, honesty and some great challenges. Rohr for me challenges those who call themself Christians or not, to try and live and embrace the Sermon on the Mount that will turn lives upside down.

Truly remarkable

I would have to strongly recommend these talks to anybody looking to be challenged and inspiring about the spiritual journey.

Sometimes there are sound issues, maybe not a surprise given the provenance of these recordings from a retreat. Some of the references give away the age of the recordings, makes some of the comments remarkable for their prescience in describing the world that has come to be since then.

You may not easily agree with or understand straight away all the points that are made, but listening to these talks is worth anyone’s time.
