Summary

Six months have passed since Alan Carter woke up from the coma Copper Tibet had put him in, and much has changed in Melington. A new chairman, a power-hungry sheriff, a spineless son who struggles with the absence of his father. And children still going missing while the monster taking them roams free and unrestrained.
In the small town of secrets, what had once been hidden is now slowly coming to light, and few rest easy, including Alan Carter. He is plagued by nightmares. The visions haunt him the minute he closes his eyes, and his dreams are clad with images of darkness, corridors lined with doors, and a woman in red who tells him he can never leave.
And somewhere in the distance, Alan's sister calls for him, begging him to save her and to take her home.

Book 2

Any additional comments?

A. I. Nasser is a good writer delivering a serious series in the Slaughter Series. The quiet historic Connecticut community of Melington is discovering the ugly consequences of cancelling the blood bindings contracted with long-deceased Copper Tibet. The Council is in uproar, and Alan Carter undergoes nearly unspeakable torments to rediscover and recover his younger sister, abducted by Copper Tibet . I am enjoying this series and waiting for the 3rd book in this series

"Some things, once heard, can never be forgotten."

Melington has grown prosperous and has encouraged new families to settle in it's seemingly friendly and safe environment. But the town holds a dark secret, once known only to the councillors and sheriff, which is about to be discovered, now that Adam Carter has emerged from his six month long coma and a hack reporter has arrived in town. Looking for a story about missing children.
This is a dark and creepy tale which is best heard with all the lights blazing and which will cause the reader/listener to glance askance at the puddle of darkness under the bed. There is always a trap door...
There are monsters out there but they can also be the people we know and trust.
The careful presentation of this book by Jake Urry is a perfect foil to the story. His slightly gravelly voice allows the tale to tell itself whilst imbuing it with an undertone of horror - an excellent narration.
I received a complementary copy of Shadow's Embrace in order that I might give an unbiased review. As this is the second book in the Slaughter series and I had not heard or read the first, I found it initially slightly confusing and definitely missed certain character nuances. It did, however, hold it's own as a stand alone but would have been enhanced, I am sure, if read in sequence.

Slaughter Series, Book 2

Didn't catch that this was book 2 when I ordered it and would have enjoyed this much more having the back story from book 1. This book does have a beginning and end, unlike some other, series, but it isn't a great stand alone book because I was confused for the first half. There was a lot explained from book 1 but it was like trying to understand a previous tv episode from the "previously on Shadow's Embrace." That being said the narrator did a fantastic job, he has the perfect voice for horror books. The story was good and very well written. Overall I expect the series, read in order, will be fantastic and look forward to other A.I. Nassar and Jake Urry books. Now to find book 1.

Slaughter Series Book 2

Any additional comments?

A continuation of book 1, Shadow's Embrace picks up where we left off and kicks the story into high gear. If you liked book 1, you'll enjoy book 2! Jake Urry is endlessly fantastic at narration.
