Summary

In the 25th Century mankind fought against the hated telepathic slan race in the fierce slan-wars. The result was the extermination of almost all slans, and the establishment of a world-wide police state. Now in the 30th Century, slan Jommy Cross has escaped extermination and is now living in the world of cruel humans. Jommy was determined to avoid detection, track down other surviving slans and with them, solve the mystery of the slan's strange existence and superiority.

Good story, but abridged and poor audio.

I really liked this book but there is a lot missing and the audio quality is terrible. I know it is an old recording but it sounds like they missed your one of the stereo channels when they mixed it. There are sections of the recording that you can't make out the actors because it is so quite.

How to ruin a sf classic

Would you try another book written by A. E. van Vogt or narrated by Third Ear Radio Theater?

Having read Classic A.E.vanVogt books in the past and this story in particular and thoughly enjoyed it. I find the Third Ears Radio Theatre adaptation of this book a total abomination attempt and is totally rank amateurish if anything a perfect example of how not to adapt a book.

What didn’t you like about Third Ear Radio Theater’s performance?

I appreciate that this was done as a radio play format but there was an over emphasis on a music background giving no real descriptve content which effectively left long periods where there was no real content. Also the sound effects drowned out almost all the dialog at times.

You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?

There were no redeeming qualities to this production.

Any additional comments?

If I could I would ask for my credit/money back. I also urge audible to remove this title from its library to prevent anyone else being disappointed.

Very jumpy radioplay

The radio play had rather long sequences of music so it felt like the story didn't move. Especially the first part was rather static. The second part did improve though.
