Summary

The first book in a new, action-packed thrill ride of a series, from the number-one New York Times best-selling author of the Mistborn Trilogy and The Way of Kings.

Ten years ago, Calamity came. It was a burst in the sky that gave ordinary men and women extraordinary powers. The awed public started calling them Epics. But Epics are no friend of man. With incredible gifts came the desire to rule. And to rule man you must crush his wills. Nobody fights the Epics...nobody but the Reckoners. A shadowy group of ordinary humans, they spend their lives studying Epics, finding their weaknesses, and then assassinating them. And David wants in. He wants Steelheart - the Epic who is said to be invincible. The Epic who killed David's father.

For years, like the Reckoners, David's been studying and planning - and he has something they need. Not an object but an experience. He's seen Steelheart bleed. And he wants revenge.

Read by MacLeod Andrews.

Another epic in the making

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Definitely would recommend this! It is much more thought out than the mistborn series for which brandon sanderson is known for. Definitely a much improved work from his earlier novels. A more realistic view on what people would be like if super powers were real.

What did you like best about this story?

The plot twist. The author goes to great length considering the readers anticipation of events to come and what is to be predicted and subverts all our expectations in a timely and spectacular manner.

What does MacLeod Andrews bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Nothing more than what other fiction narrators have narrated for Brandon Sanderson. He does good and does not fail to deliver, though probably not quite on the level as Michael Kramer.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The prologue

The narrator sounded like Fry from futurama

I really enjoyed this audio book but the 1 thing that kept breaking my concentration was the narrators voice and how much it sounded like Fry from Futurama.

Fry, I mean David, is a boy who looses his father after people are suddenly granted super powers from an unknown source, named the calamity. The story is about his journey for revenge and how it changes him and those he fights along side.

I have most of Sanderson's books and this one did not dissapoint.

Brandon delivers an 'EPIC' story once agsin

So far I've loved all of his work and Steelheart is another one to add to the list. Great characters, twisting plot line, insightful vision of a post apolocoliptic world and great delivery by MacLeod. A truly EPIC story

Epic (excuse the pun)

What a book! Was a bit sceptical at start as being a big Marvel fan but the way this book is written and narrated is perfect. You would be silly not to get this if you are a super hero/villain fan

A surprise find I enjoyed greatly

An interesting premise and very well read by the performer. It's great.

Do yourself a favor and avoid googling it while listening. Spoilers are very easily found by accident

Love Brandon Sanderson's Work

Got to love the character's he builds and their quirks :)
By the end of the book I felt forfilled by this book... Midway through I started to have my doubts but after finishing it and contemplating the work B.S. has put into the characters it makes more sense to my reactions.
It's one of those books that you do wish you started reading when the whole story was out if your as impatient as I am...
Decent storyline, brilliant introductions of characters and they're personalities. Good ending and a few little twists to keep us on our toes.
I found myself wanting them to wear UV lighting as clothes and was a little annoyed they didn't have more lighting power with all the fabulos guns and explosives they seemed to have!!
If you love B.S. and fantasy books on a whole I would tell you to have a listen sit back and enjoy a master writer as he 'casts his bate' getting ready to wheel us all into his world of New Cargo ...
I'm not very good at Metaphors either but will keep trying!!!
Enjoy :)
