Summary

Scarlett is a sensible 17-year-old young lady - or so everyone thinks - but there is definitely more to her. The daughter of famous English Egyptologists and archeologists Theodore and Gemma Seely, she is prone to adventure and all the world has to offer. It is the 1890s, and she has just received a letter from one of her parents' dearest friends, a certain detective who lives on Baker Street, who needs her help on a most bizarre case. As she embarks through the supernatural side of London, venturing into the forbidden realms bordering Victorian society, she is occupanied by a dashing but infuriating Lord Darthmoor. And Scarlett's first case, which had seem innocent at first, takes a turn for the unexpected and dangerous.

Aargh. Badly miscast.

People who aren't British.

What was most disappointing about Kailin Gow’s story?

The narration was really irritating. Why chose an Australian voice artist for a story set in Victorian England? I can't listen longer than three minutes.

Who might you have cast as narrator instead of Candice Moll?

Some one who could approximate an English accent. Someone who takes advice on how to pronounce Flinders Petrie.

What character would you cut from Supernatural Devices?

Didn't get far enough into the book to form an opinion.

Any additional comments?

I wish I could get past the voice artist. It sounds like the kind of book I would love to listen to.
