Summary
What I thought I knew: in 1998, Maryanne Doyle disappeared, and Dad knew something about it. Maryanne Doyle was never seen again.
What I actually know: in 1998, Dad lied about knowing Maryanne Doyle. Alice Lapaine has been found strangled near Dad's pub. Dad was in the local area for both Maryanne Doyle's disappearance and Alice Lapaine's murder.

Truly Outstanding
I get through a lot of audiobooks - usually between 6-8 per month and many of them fall into the same genre as this.
This is amongst the best I’ve listened to in recent months. It’s quite astounding this is a debut novel.
The story was gripping and characters well fleshed out.
My only criticism is the narration. There was nothing particularly unpleasant about it, it just was not on par with some of the great narrators. It’s a shame lesser books have better narrators - otherwise this is a 5/5 read.

An interesting & accomplished new voice
While I found the protagonist annoying to start with, the story is so interesting it kept me going. Well written twists and turns kept me guessing. Wry observations and a few outright laughs. I hope we get more of the murder team in future books.

Gave up on chapter 8
I never normally give up on a book but my god this was so slow and boring. I found the characters irritating, especially all the unfunny “banter” between police officers and the caricature of a psychologist. It’s a shame as from the blurb it sounded like an interesting premise, but everything is so over-described and there’s a general sense of trying too hard that I couldn’t put up with after a while. I kept losing track of what was actually happening because there was no real substance to it, just waffle.

Hooked!
This was my 2nd audio book and to be honest, I started listening to books, rather than reading as I was having trouble sleeping. I put my headphones in and close my eyes and found myself waking up somewhere around Chapter 20, having started 10 chapters earlier. So, audio is the way to go! Sweet Little Lies is a true gem. A superb story that I will cherish forever. I loved the narrator.... she is outstanding. I've just bought another book based on the narrator alone.

Enjoyable twisty tale - a great read- one that was difficult to stop!
Really enjoyed the first person narrative and our lead character Cat as she negotiates her job as a london murder DC- while her upbringing and family story plays out. Will certainly be looking out for Caz Frear books in the future!

DCI Bridget Jones!
What a surprising treat this was. Caz Frear has injected some serious humanity into the police procedural genre by introducing us to DC Cat Kinsella. Okay yes the title of this review is a little tongue-in-cheek but if you look closely there is a little of Bridget Jones there in Frear's femae lead. Battling with very human issues, some small and even mildly amusing while, unlike Bridget maybe also the deadly serious.
It's a good story too. Some nice little twists and I thought a satisfying conclusion. The key here is a very strong sense of place and people that the writer brings out through Cat and the other characters.
Definitely on the highly recommended list!

Constructed & soppy
This book was a bit of a disappointment, with a constructed storyline & a soppy father daughter relationship (phew).

Really enjoyed listening to the narration and found the story to be well paced. A very good crime novel and hope there’ll be another in this series.

Wow!
Loved it! A blisteringly good book. Really well written and compulsive listening. I seriously couldn’t put it down. Loved the narration. Faultless accents and a totally convincing performance. I loved Cat, fantastic central character who I could emphasise with and who made me laugh out loud. I throughly recommend this book and can’t wait to hear more from this fantastic author.
