Critic reviews

"Impressive... the characters are strong and Venice is a magnificent backdrop for a story of secrets and lies." ( Daily Mail on The Abomination)

Gripping and exciting thriller

If you could sum up The Abduction in three words, what would they be?

gripping,exciting and different

Any additional comments?

This was a fantastic book - totally different and wonderful drawn and developed characters. It also was believable and really gives one pause for thought. I was only sorry when it was over. This is a trilogy and it would be great to read the first volume as well which is not yet on audible. One of my favourite listens this year! Great!

Full of twists and turns

What about Michael Fenner’s performance did you like?

He managed the female voices pretty well

Any additional comments?

It took me a while to get into the book but it was well worth it in the end.I found the tech details difficult to follow but this did not detract from the overall enjoyment of the book. The torture details were gruesome but believable. All the odd ends came together very well to make a thought provoking climax

great

What did you like most about The Abduction?

excellent tale, characters and written in a style I find pleasing. Actually felt at odd moments that I could picture the surroundings so well

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Abduction?

-

Which scene did you most enjoy?

-

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

-

Any additional comments?

the only frustration was that this is the second book, the first not available on audible: whose idea was that?
I did not find the female interpretation 'girlie' in fact thought narrator managed the task very well. I guess we all hear differently

drop the girly voice

What did you like best about The Abduction? What did you like least?

a fine story read by a narrator who was good except when he put on a little girls voice for the female characters. sadly he made strong female police officers and U.S. intelligence officers sound like girlish giggling air-heads.

What did you like best about this story?

the plot was gripping

What didn’t you like about Michael Fenner’s performance?

the voice he used for female characters - very distracting and seemed to lessen the importance of the strong female leads

Could you see The Abduction being made into a movie or a TV series? Who would the stars be?

Angelina Jolie as kat

Any additional comments?

would like the narrator to read it without doing 'voices' or maybe combine with a female narrator

contrived thriller with few surprises

Would you try another book written by Jonathan Holt or narrated by Michael Fenner?

no

Would you recommend The Abduction to your friends? Why or why not?

probably not because it is not as good as other similar books in this genre

How did the narrator detract from the book?

a bit monotonous

Did The Abduction inspire you to do anything?

look for other authors

Story undermined by narration.

Interesting storyline blending recent historic intrigue with very modern issues.
The narrator's voicing of female protagonists was poor, became irritating and ultimately detracted from enjoyment.

Enthralling

This is a cleverly woven novel of fact and fiction... Or is it fiction?
It's the first of his books I've bought and I will certainly buy more. The main female character was a bit extreme for my tastes and I found myself loosing patience with her at times, but that is my only reservation.
