Seriously Good

What did you like most about The Bone Field?

I have never read any of Simon Kernick's work and was very impressed. There are so many twists and turns, lots of characters - Im really surprised it hasn't been turned into a TV drama - the cliff hanger was a bit annoying as the next one in the series isnt even out

Great read

I really enjoyed this listen, story line good (apart from why are you going into a basement in the dark etc!) and narrator excellent too.

Left hanging at the end amid too many bodies

I’ve listened to a number of the author's books and while this is an interesting, if somewhat implausible story, I never felt as engaged as I had with previous novels. The book starts well with an intriguing mystery as to how the bones of a young woman, who went missing on holiday in Thailand, ended up in a field in England. However, the narrative thereafter goes off in different directions and latterly deteriorates in a series of mass of killings. I also grew weary of the clichés of the genre: maverick cop, who is taken off the case because of going out on a limb; conflict with superiors, broken marriage etc., etc., but worst of all the story ends unresolved on a cliffhanger, presumably with the hope of selling the next book, but it short-changes the reader.

The narrator is excellent as usual.

White Knuckle

I am a big Simon Kernick fan so this was a must read for me. The story at times is tense and nerve wracking. I was drawn into the story, making it feel as though I was there, on the perphery, observing. I have to say though, that I found the penultimate chapter a bit predictable, but the final chapter redeemed that, whetting my apetite for the next book, The Hanged Man. I listened to this book on Audible, which was a first for me. I was able to listen in places where/when I wouldn't have been able to read the book and I loved that. If you like tense thrillers, this is for you.

Great Listen

Have to say , really enjoy listening to Paul Thornley as a narrator. Difficult to choose a book, that turns out to be as listenable as you had hoped or the reviews said it would be. Great plot, characters and ending. The combination of a good story by Kernick and narration by Thornley made a great Listen.

Unfinished!

Enjoyed this audiobook, but felt let down by the "non-ending".

I've purchased many of Simon Kernick's audiobooks so surprised that this book appears unfinished.

Narrator great though.

Same old same old

The book was read very well, story to similar to every other crime thriller ever wrote. Lost me for the last hour when it was all so called coming together.
