Summary

During the decade that spanned the 1970s, teddy-boy draped rock 'n' roll band Showaddywaddy had a run of chart success unparalleled by any other artist or band.

In 2005 they were still touring, but by then the heady days of teenybop hysteria were long gone. Offered a summer run of 33 holiday camp dates, the band took the fast buck and subsequently entered into uncharted territory.

From experiencing life in the fast lane, they were about to undergo a breakdown on the hard shoulder. In this bittersweet account, lead singer (and later manager) Dave Bartram candidly recollects the extraordinary occurrences of 10 weeks in the UK's bucket and spade resorts which strained every emotion to breaking point!

Nothing much happens

Firstly I like the band, wouldn’t have bought it otherwise. I was expecting inside information about the band, it’s members etc. However nothing really happens. It’s a description of holiday camps and how bad most of the staff are. How dreadful the stages were and what the accommodations were like.

Some camps and staff come out of it well but most don’t.

I understand it was probably amusing at times for the band. Worthy of a magazine article not a book.

Shame. Missed opportunity.

Good fun

Good fun, narration gets a bit ropey but that doesn’t really detract from the overall experience
