Surprising
“We all reed Catcher in the Rye but no one reads The Caine Mutiny” was a line from a blog that made me decide to listen to this book. The first 25% drags and could be skipped with little loss, but like Tolstoy the expanse of time taken to establish normality allows you to be taken into the stress and strain of the books middle. I understand why this was a best seller for so long. All I want to do now is debate the ethics of mutiny and whether an enlisted man must follow incompetent orders even to their death. I want to find a sailor from the time to ask about this books realism because it feels so real. Unfortunately I’m 70 years too late to debate with the books mass public of other readers but this one is going to stick with me.

Builds and builds
Really enjoyed this. Starts slow, but once we get to sea the stories build as does the attention. A real exploration of human behaviour under pressure and very believable. Have not seen the film but I’m now keen to do so.

Quite OK
This was a good book. The good blend of WWII naval action, good characters, love, and courtroom suspense. It was also very even, no long dragging parts.

Brilliant epic
Loved everything about this book. A tale of coming of age amongst the brutal complexities of war is told through a beautifully, compassionately drawn set of characters. Brilliantly narrated with warmth and great feeling. It’s long, but fully worth the investment of time.

Atmospheric war time classic
Would you consider the audio edition of The Caine Mutiny to be better than the print version?
Yes because I am not sure I would have chosen it to read myself.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Captain Queeg because he was so horribly unpleasant.
What about Kevin Pariseau’s performance did you like?
Yes, very much. I will look out for other books that he has narrated.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The part that stood out particularly for me was at the time of the actual 'mutiny'.
Any additional comments?
A thought provoking story. Was Captain Queeg really mad or just a bad leader? I'd listen again knowing the outcome to see if I change my opinion.

Old Favourite Revisited in Audio
I first read this around 1954/55 aged 15+. Probably one of my first grown up books and much impressed me at the time. I have read it a few times since and seen the Film a few times. I very much enjoyed listening to the familiar story unfolding. Some detail I had forgotten, many passages and phrases I recalled almost word for word.
