Summary

According to the latest scientific research, anyone can be creative. You just have to know how to think creatively, which involves taking a more imaginative approach to the challenges we all face. Learn how to wield the same research-based tools that today's creative people use and tap into your inner creative thinker with Professor Puccio's engaging 24-lecture series that takes you step-by-step through the creative-thinking process.

You'll get a solid introduction to the four major stages of creative problem solving, one of the most effective methods used in creativity training around the world. Just like today's creative geniuses, you'll learn how to approach professional and personal challenges by clarifying your obstacles, ideating potential solutions, developing the ones that are workable, and implementing them in the real world.

You'll also learn how to wield the tools of the creative trade with the aid of simple exercises, in-studio demonstrations, hypothetical scenarios, and more. These powerful tools include everything from tapping into the power of brainwriting (an alternative take on brainstorming) to the effective use of How-How diagrams (which help you develop concrete action steps).

Whether you want to overcome writer's block, solve a complex business problem, or figure out the best way to resolve a tense argument, this series will give you everything you need so that when other people are dodging challenges, you're uncovering the hidden opportunities they'll have missed.

Another great TTC Course

I've completed a number of TTC courses now. They're all good, but for me, some are great. This is one of the great ones. I think I'm generally creative, but this taught me some new tools and good ideas of ways to be creative in a more methodical way. There were plenty of examples to illustrate the point, and only once or twice did I need to refer to the PDF companion to understand what the professor was talking about. My only criticisms were that the parts on evaluation/implementation were disappointing. I'm someone who struggles to make decisions and gets overloaded, and I wasn't satisfied with the evaluation tools we were given here (they seemed to be: list the criteria, prioritise the criteria, compare your solutions against them, evaluate, and there you go: make your decision). All in all, another fantastic listen.

Excellent

The book itself is a real idea generator. Worth 6 stars if I could give it.

Shallow techniques

This audiobook is a step by step guide to come up with ideas WITHOUT actually fostering your creativity all that much.

Well put together and organized like most of the Great Courses content, however the approach to creativity recommended seemed shallow and sterile.

It lacked the subtlety of the muse, of mindful fearlessness, of letting go, of the "sacred fountain of creation" inside us... I'm no mystic, but this is the best I can express creativity. I had hoped this book would express it better!

Best spent 12 hours ever

If there is any creative aspect to your personal or professional life this is the best 12 hours you will ever spend. It taught me new things and it helped me understand things that I was already doing. I enjoyed the examples, the structure, the pace and the additional resources. I recommend It to anyone 100%.

Monotonous reading and American pron... oh dear

What did you like best about The Creative Thinker's Toolkit? What did you like least?

I found the Prof's voice very samey ( if there is such a word.. ) The 'Bawston' accent maybe.. and also the pronunciation of creative as 'crative'.. I will persevere as I'm sure there is loads of great content.

Some padding

The occasional very useful tip, plenty of padding though with the history of creativity, lists of examples and anecdotes

Helpful in every area of your life

I cannot praise this course enough. There are exercises, examples, Philosophy and tools, all of which can be picked up and used in various situations. I only wish I could remember them all and I will be keeping this book open for using in future. One of the best courses I have encountered. Thank you

A lot of waffle about why creativity is good

A lot of waffling and examples of why creativity is important. I guess for people living from creativity, including artists, might find some useful tips, on how to organize processes and create good conditions for creating a lot of ideas.
