Summary

The Plantagenets reigned over England longer than any other family - from Henry II to Richard III. Four kings were murdered, two came close to being deposed, and the last - and most notorious, Richard III - was killed in a battle by rebels. Shakespeare wrote plays about six of them, further entrenching them in the national myth. Based on major contemporary sources and recent research, acclaimed historian Desmond Seward provides the first accessible overview of the whole extraordinary dynasty, in one volume.

Good intro to the dynasty

Clear account of the reigns of the Plantagenet kings, excellent for anyone who wants an overview. A bit of a gallop so not suitable if you want a really detailed study. Good reading but a tad quick (best at 90% speed) and exacerbated by poor editing which has each section title following so close on the previous text as to sound like part of the same sentence.

Good account of Plantagenet History

A good overall work but understandably much abridged as a long period retrospectives did confuse the flow on occasions as imagined that I had gone back by mistake!
Well narrated on the whole but did find the Americanism of the date format annoying. It is an English history after all

Too fast

Fascinating book let down by being read so quickly. Also some of the dates were wrong.
