Shortlisted for The Guardian First Book Award, 2005. A warm, funny, moving, and unsentimental tale of one family and the English countryside. After 200 years of farming in Yorkshire, the Benson family was forced to sell up. They found, like so many, that the land could no longer support them. While the farming way of life never came naturally to Richard Benson, a point that sent him running to London, he still feels his parents' loss and returns to do what he can to help. In The Farm he tells of his childhood, the changing landscape, and of how his family has adapted to a new life after being forced to give up their birthright.

A charming story
What made the experience of listening to The Farm the most enjoyable?
A lovely and moving story of a farming family finding themselves again. The ups and down of a farming family struggling through the times of the agricultural evolution.
