Summary

As delightfully wry and witty as his best-selling debut, The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared, this is a tale of how one young woman's attempt to change her future ends up changing everything.

On 14th June, 2007, the King of Sweden disappears. In 1994 South Africa dismantles six missiles developed during its brief nuclear weapons programme. In 1961 Nombeko Mayeki is born in a Soweto shack. Seemingly destined for a life nasty, brutish and short, her path takes an entirely unpredictable turn. Because really this story is all about the seventh South African missile - the one that was never supposed to have existed. The one that Nombeko knows far too much about.

So now she's on the run and running into twins who are officially one person, a Vietnam vet, and a potato-loving Baroness. But the fate of the King of Sweden, and indeed the world, will remain on her shoulders alone.

Clever, witty writing

Having read the 100 year old man and loved it I was happy to see this title pop up. I was not disappointed.
Engaging characters , fascinating plot twists and very clever story telling kept me hooked from start to finish.
The narration is perfect, done in the cool style of the author - thoroughly recommended.

An excellent amusing story

This has been a rare treat for me, listening to this book over the past week, exploring longer journeys in order to hear more.

The book is full of humour and is narrated perfectly, each character plays out wonderfully that this really had been the highlight of the audible service this far.

I don't want to say anything of the story as I think it will take away the entertainment, but to me this is what a book should be like.

Hilarious

Having listened to the 100 year old man first I was pleased that Peter Kenny also narrated this book. The story is hilarious and the performance by Kenny brings it to life. Well worth a listen.

Brilliant!

I just love this author and the narrator - the stories are excellent and I just wish there were more. Great entertainment that made for much longer dog walks.

Brilliant

I loved everything about this book. The beautifully written story was full of dry humour and entertaining twists. It was read perfectly, which made listening a real pleasure.

Quirky

Very much like the 100 year old man in that the improbable occurs on a regular basis, and everything lines up rather too usefully. That said, having grown up in South Africa during the apartheid years, I enjoyed the South African scenes which if they hadn't been so light-heartedly written might have been rather upsetting given their "well-observed-truth".

An easy listening credit. Perfect for when you need something entertaining and uncomplicated.
