Summary

The unabridged, downloadable audiobook edition of The Hangman's Song, the third in the phenomenally successful Inspector McLean series by James Oswald. Read by the actor Ian Hanmore.

The body of a man is found hanging in an empty house. To the Edinburgh police force this appears to be a simple suicide case. Days later another body is found. The body is hanging from an identical rope and the noose has been tied using the same knot. Then a third body is found. As Inspector McLean digs deeper he descends into a world where the lines of reality are blurred and where the most irrational answers become the only explanations.

Absorbing.

One of the best series I have come across - compelling stories and strong characters make for books that you just can't leave alone!
I'm ready to download my next one. I dread the feeling when I come to the last chapter of the last book though!

Inspector Mclean on the case again

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, great story, and if you are intersted in Edinburgh and like the Scottish accent especially

What did you like best about this story?

The cleverness of the killer to stage the deaths they way he did, and the tenacity of Tony McLean to get to the bottom of it.

Have you listened to any of Ian Hanmore’s other performances? How does this one compare?

Yes, others in the Inspector McLean series, and just as good as the others

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes, feeling of revulsion in response to the murders, certainly did not make me want to laugh or cry.

True genius

A fantastic book, full of twists and turns. Couldn't put it down. A must for all crime book fans. A great performance by the narrator who really brings detective McLean to life. Can't wait to read the next in the series.

I love all of James Oswald's books, I've read them all so I'm now on the Audible versions. Ian brings the story to life in a way that just reading it doesn't. highly recommended series!!

hangmans song book 3 by james oswald

Would you consider the audio edition of The Hangman's Song to be better than the print version?

yes because you can hear it anywhere
as books are hard to read when you are walking

What other book might you compare The Hangman's Song to, and why?

i have just bought the rest of the 6 ones on audible

Which scene did you most enjoy?

when he nearly killed himself as people tried to talk to me and i turned up the story as it was very good and i needed to find out what happened next

Any additional comments?

best books to hear in years thank you
will look for more from James oswald

The story continues....

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, definitely. However, as this is book 3 in the series, I would also need to recommend books 1 and 2 to them. The "investigation" is standalone, but not the underlying story about Inspector McLean and his friends (and enemies).

What did you like best about this story?

Those moments where you are wondering whether you are dealing with something supernatural or not.

What does Ian Hanmore bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

He is a proper voice actor and thus brings the story fully alive

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Multiple hangings. Everybody thinks it is suicide, but is a clever hangman on the loose preying on vulnerable people?

Any additional comments?

Bring on nr4 as an audiobook!
