Summary

At one time, Corrie ten Boom would have laughed at the idea that she had a story to tell. For the first 50 years of her life, nothing out of the ordinary ever happened to her. She was a spinster watchmaker living contentedly with her sister and their elderly father in the tiny house over their shop in Haarlem. Their uneventful days, as regulated as their own watches, revolved around their abiding love for one another.

But with the Nazi invasion and occupation of Holland, everything changed. Corrie ten Boom and her family became leaders in the Dutch underground, hiding Jewish people in their home in a specially built room and aiding their escape from the Nazis. For their pains, all but Corrie found death in a concentration camp.

Here is a story aglow with the glory of God and the courage of a quiet Christian whose life was transformed by it.

Critic reviews

"Wanda McCaddon does great credit to the writers of this true story. Her emotional control makes the tension and horror of the family’s plight more real and hideous. The listener is left with a story of extraordinary humanity, goodness and overwhelming love." ( AudioFile)

Heart opening

Very important story of love and devastation. Flawlessly narrated. Compelling and joyful despite the horrors described. I didn't want to leave Corrie when the book ended. Corrie and Betsie had me in awe as to what the power of faith can achieve.

Must Listen

This story is wonderful. It's probably the most moving book I've ever listened to. From lovely, to sadness and disgust and then wondrous. This story will remain with me forever!

Wonderful witness

I've read this book, now listened to it. Love the narration. So moving, what a wonderful witness this amazing family were. Can't quite describe the mixed emotions felt whilst listening to the book. Love it, yet astonished how cruel fellow humans can be towards each other.

So brave

A memorable account of faith and a higher power to which we all belong, their faith was so very strong. The narration was very good and I listened to the whole thing in one sitting. I would recommend this book.

Am I even a Christian? You'll ask many times.

The Hiding Place is unforgettable and many times I found myself wondering if I was even a Christian. Could I do any of the things that the Ten Booms did? Love the way they loved? Suffer the way they suffered? Die with grace the way most of them died? I can't say I will, but after listening to this book, by the grace of God, I'm certainly going to try.

Such a valuable book of God's love in action

Wonderful book from a wonderful lady whom the Lord used in an amazing way to safeguard Jews and freedom fighters risking their own lives, being betrayed, ending up in a concentration camp where a number of her family died and then able to forgive her betrayer. Nicely narrated as well.
