Summary

Barbara was 12 when she was admitted to the psychiatric hospital Aston Hall in 1971. From a troubled home, she'd hoped she would find sanctuary there. But during her stay, Barbara was systematically drugged and abused by its head physician, Dr Kenneth Milner.

Somehow, eventually, she started to campaign for answers. This is a shocking account of how vulnerable children were preyed upon by the doctor entrusted with their care.

Inspiring and truthful

A tear jerking story which had me compelled to the very end, narrated beautifully by Charlie Sanderson. I hope Barbara that you eventually get final closure. Thank you for sharing your story. X

Totally Absorbing Book

Society's disgusting hidden truth finally fully revealed. Harrowing at times especially when we now realise how prevelant organised child abuse is and has ALWAYS been. It's rife among those in positions of power and control. May Milner's pedophile associates be hunted down and pay for their vile deeds and those who are dead, especially Milner, may they NEVER rest in peace and burn in the bowels of hell for eternity for the pain, suffering and deaths they were responsible for.

Shocking

What a story , I listened to it all in one day . That dr 😡. I hope he rots in total hell & I’m so annoyed you didn’t get your day in court with him & those awful unfeeling nurses . Your parents both of them letting you down time & time again & how you told your dad & he did nothing , people like that should not be allowed to have kids . The kids who went missing & how you were moved time & time again . But look how you turned out into a amazing lady who loves her kids & foster kids , who went through so much including cancer & you came out of it all . I wish you all the love in the world & happiness & I hope it gets to court & you at least have your day x

Very Harrowing and Wonderful Courage

What a truly sad wonderful and deeply harrowing book by Barbara O' Hare and narrated brilliantly by Charlie Sanderson - I myself am a victim/survivor of truly brutal torture from an uncaring repulsive NHS system and wholly determined to cover-up what happened to me. The current system of pursuing justice in this country is designed against the victim/survivor and this simply has to stop from a system scared of admitting the obvious traumatic abuse of vulnerable adults and which is still widespread. There never is a justification for erroneous 'treatments' and Barbara O' Hare' account of physical and sexual abuse at the hands of evil Dr Milner is truly horrendous - the raw shock of the brutality and disdain show to vulnerable people is truly horrifying. I cried heavily listening to this book because of my own life story and because I am still without justice for being tortured at the hands of criminal NHS Trusts. I agree that living whatever your own individual story is it does make us exceptionally strong super humans - if the system in this country shows duty of care to vulnerable children/adults they have truly horrifically failed and actually learns valuable lessons then a better world awaits us. A struggle to finish🙄

Story that needs to be told but way too long and repetitive. I wouldn't recommend it.

Poor Narration

The story itself was very engaging but the terrible narration deflected attention from it as I found myself being irritated by the narrators lack of the use of punctuation

heartbreaking real life story

Highly recommended. It's horrific that anyone had to endure this, I listened in absolute horror to the story of Barbara's life. But is was such a compelling listen. My heart goes out to her and to the child she was who endured such horrific treatment at the hands of the very people a child should be able to trust.
I didn't experience child abuse like this but I married my abuser and so much of the emotions that come out in the book resonate with me I have CPTSD. I feel inspired to take Barbara's advice and write my story. just for myself and my healing.
Barbara is a true warrior and I thank her for her courage and incredible resilience.
