Disturbing plotline more suited to crime thriller
On her Amazon page it states “Trisha Ashley writes romantic comedies…” well maybe this did used to be the case as many of her earlier books including ‘Chocolate Wishes’ (2010) and ‘Chocolate Shoes and Wedding Blues’ (2012) are most certainly light hearted feel good tales with lovely character and interesting story arcs however over the last few years I noticed that Trisha Ashley books were becoming darker and including seedier more disturbing plotlines. I do not know what happened to her frame of mind but I certainly do not count domestic abuse that includes children and murder as ‘light hearted’ or ‘romantic comedy’! There is a time and place for these important subjects to be raised and it should be made clear by Audible and the publisher if a book includes these themes. Having been drawn in to the plot of ‘The House of Hopes and Dreams’ thinking she had finally returned to more innocent themes, I was totally sickened and disgusted by the ending chapters and the images conjured up have stayed with me. Trisha Ashley should switch to writing crime thrillers if she wants to work with such subject matter. I am retuning the title for a refund.

Great countryside mystery
While initially put-off by Ms Franklin's narration I quickly grew to appreciate and respect that this lady clearly has a passion for enunciating every single syllable correctly. She seems extremely passionate about reading and her performance stood alone, quite a lot of the time, to the story.
I am pleased the volume of this audiobook is considerably louder than previous listens, as some of those were becoming increasingly difficult to hear even in the quietest of environments.
Trisha Ashley's story was full, descriptive and enthralling. I have laughed and gasped at many parts, which have not failed to entertain me. I am pleased the relationship between the two main characters ended in the way it did but I was a little confused throughout the story at how this relationship was played out - although, admittedly, so was the main character herself.
I liked the mystery that the house held and was satisfied at the story's conclusion.

Awful narrating!
Couldn't finish this book. The narrator has the most irritatingly annoying voice and accents which I thought I'd get used to eventually, but just could not!!

Strange voice of the reader spoilt if for me at times,
Overall a fairly good story, could have had a bit more suspense , and was fairly predictable in some places. The reader has a strange almost mechanical voice at times, that makes it hard going, however you soon settle into it, and it did not ruin it entirely. The people in the book were strong, but was easy to loose track at times, with all the names. I would have liked the book to be longer, but saying that there really was not much further for the story to go, so probably ended at the right time.

Old fashioned mystery meets modern day romance
The house of hopes and dreams is an old house full of half suspected secrets, a housefull of clues in many layers hidden, yet on show for all to see. Moving panels, priest holes and the like with unsuspected depths, make this story as exciting as a Georgette Heyer. There's a lot in here; enjoyable narration, the main characters Angel and Carey are extremely likeable and all sorts of secrets are to be discovered with them as they go on their journeys of discovery. If you like your romance with a bit of mystery this one's a gem.

Just great - a real food good read
Predictable plot - tick, too good to be true scenario- tick, perfect love interest - tick, but you know what? I loved it all. The characters are so likeable and well written that you feel like you’re along for the ride with them. Loved the emerging story of the house (one of the biggest characters in the book) almost as much as the dog, and the historical story along side the contemporary one was s nice touch. Reminded me of ‘Dark Towers’ a BBC schools programme that was on when I was a child. Overall, really great read.

Enjoyable
I have read or listened to most of Trisha Ashley’s books and enjoyed them. I particularly enjoyed this one. A nice story that is not the usual run of the mill romance.
