Summary

With magic, nothing's impossible.
Everyone knew it was impossible for men to do magic, until it happened.
Conryu Koda is a young man of modest ambition. All he wants is to work on bikes and practice Kung Fu. His modest dreams die on the day of The Testing when it's revealed he has wizard potential.
When the Department of Magic announces that a male wizard has been found it draws the attention of the Le Fay Society, a radical group of wizards that view men as little better than animals and Conryu as an abomination. The Society will stop at nothing to see Conryu dead.

it all about the side characters

Would you listen to The Impossible Wizard again? Why?

yes i am looking forward to the next book hopeful the main protagonist get more page time and is longer as i love this writer other works.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

this book main problem is that the side characters get more development and page time that the main protagonist. i liked that it did develop the side characters but they sould not be the main focus it feels like the writer wanted this book to be longer. This book is like side story and the first book is not done yet, that said i did like this the story i just want more from it

Any additional comments?

the writer of this book is one of my favorites and everyone should check out the other books he has written and check this book out to hopeful this review helps you out as it is the first i have ever done.

Worth a listen but just missed the mark

Any additional comments?

I was immediately intrigued by the prospect of following a young man who thinks he has his life planned out only to find he is, shockingly, the first male wizard since possibly Merlin. His world is going to be upended because he has not been trained in any way in magic. No males are. And to top it off there are various groups who now want to kill him for upsetting the order of things and being an aberration. The book follows the police investigation of the attempted murder of the young man.

The negatives for me are that: 1.) There is no real description of the world where the story takes place. How does magic fit in this world? Is there any theory as to why only females can be wizards? 2.) The main character seemed to be away through a good part of the story and as a result i didn't get a good feeling of back story for him. 3.) We never made it to the wizard college which I was looking forward to (Not expecting Hogwarts here).

Assuming these things are addressed in later volumes my negatives are relatively minor.

The book is well written and Mr. Hempel does an admirable job of telling the story. The pace is good and I really liked the action sequences.

I do recommend giving this book a try. I know I will be looking into the second book in the series.

worth picking up

this was a total blind pick for me and I went in with pretty low expectations. to my surprise I was blown away and so drawn in. I finished the first book in one day and started the second book.
