Summary

RITA finalist Julie Klassen has earned numerous awards for her popular historical romance novels. In The Maid of Fairbourne Hall, pampered Margaret Macy flees her home in London to avoid marrying a dishonorable man. Now, with no money and no place to stay, Margaret does the unthinkable: she takes a job as a housemaid in the home of two brothers - both of whom are former suitors. As an “invisible” observer, Margaret realizes she may have misjudged one brother and wonders if it’s too late to win his admiration.

The clever descriptions between personalities and class

This story transported me into so many lives - some idle, some busy - in fact I would choose to live below stairs !!

excellent

This book was so enjoyable. I was totally invested in the story all the way through. Exceptionally well written and beautifully read.

Historical references.

Anti slave awakening. Slaves fighting back. Twists and turns, references to 'working in service', how difficult it was to travel small distances, clothing details.

Good storyline

I kept getting thrown out of the story without consistency for the characters accents, they kept changing midway through conversations until everyone sounded Irish. I enjoyed the book otherwise though, and it kept me entertained.

Period drama

An easy listen although a little slow .
I must admit the basis of the plot was unique but the telling was a somewhat “Mills&Boon” at times.
Overall I enjoyed it but found I had slept through a couple of chapters several times. I did go back and pick up from where I last left off.
Not a stimulating read but not bad.
