Summary

It has never occurred to Precious Ramotswe, as she discusses over cups of bush tea with her associate Mma Makutsi such important matters as the afterlife and the purchase of a fine new bed with a heart-shaped headboard, that there may be disadvantages to being the best-known lady detective in Botswana.

But when she receives a threatening anonymous letter from someone who knows exactly where to find her, Mma Ramotswe is compelled to reconsider her unconquerable belief in a kind world. While she ponders the identity of the letter-writer, Mma Ramotswe has a further set of problems to solve, both professional and personal.

There is an adopted child's poignant search for her true family, amd Mr J.L.B. Matekoni's pursuit of an expensive miracle for their own foster daughter, Motholeli. Mustering her good humour and accumulated wisdom to deal with these tricky issues, Mme Ramotswe nevertheless finds herself contemplating the complicated nature of truth - and whether it is sometimes better not to know it.

A gentle and amusing addition to the series

What made the experience of listening to The Miracle at Speedy Motors the most enjoyable?

A gentle storyline, amusing and made more enjoyable by the wonderful narration.

What does Adjoa Andoh bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

I enjoy the way she brings life to each character in a unique way. You can really imagine each person :-)

Carries on as a good feel listen

The Miracle at Speedy Motors carries on the series of books about lady detective Mma Ramotswe.Once again you you are taken by Alexander Mccall Smith into the heat of Botswana so totally that even on a rainy day you could almost feel the sun on your back. Adjoa Andoh is again narrator and manages to immerse you in the story line with her smooth tones.I am A big fan of this series of stories and couldn't wait to find out what happens next with Grace and her new fiance Footie. And what new cases Mma Ramotswe must solve. Enjoyable listen.

Lovely Story But Felt Disjointed

I've lost count of which book this is that I've just finished and I have to say I am disappointed. Hugely so. I LOVE this series of books and they are enriched by Adjoa Andoh's narration. However this disappointed on all counts. Mma Makutsi just didn't sound like she does in other of the books. Perhaps because it is an earlier much older narration than the modern ones? I really detest the abridged recordings - is there a reason for cutting out the minutae and chatter between that makes this series so beloved? I want the extra couple of hours of unabridged narration for my money, that's the whole point these characters are so real and relatable. This was wholly disappointing.
