Summary

A tired old freighter, the Moonraker, is homeward bound from Freemantle to Mauritius. Haunted by his past, Captain Stone seeks solace in a gin bottle, and Italian mate Carlo Frascatti grumbles at the motley crew. Then the calm, humdrum voyage is shattered when the radio operator picks up a warning of a suspected cyclone ahead. Members of the panic-stricken crew turn on their captain and abandon ship, and so begins a desperate struggle to keep the battered hulk afloat.

Sea tale

This book held my interest and I could not stop listening. I admit to liking tales of the sea and this book is very nautical. The writer takes pains to put his prose into nautical context. A good story with enough human greed, sloth, and error to make it a very good listen. Finally one worth a credit.

predictable and unsatisfying

no real twists or turns in the story, easy to figure out what was coming up in the book. the end was truly disappointing as it leraves many questions unanswered.

Easy way to spend some drive time, but I wouldn't suggest it.
