Addiction, pain, and explosive tempers are not exactly what you’d call the ingredients for a side-splitting comedy. Yet Steven Adly Guiguis has created a profane, hilarious masterpiece that earned a “hatful” of theatrical accolades in 2011, including a Drama Desk award for Outstanding Actor in a Play for Bobby Cannavale. Stars the original Broadway cast: Chris Rock, Bobby Canavale, Annabella Sciorra, Elizabeth Rodriguez and Yul Vazquez.
A 2011 Tony Award nominee for Best Play.

Emotional Rollercoaster

I have listened to this dramatization many times. I have even invited my friends to listen to it with me because I enjoy it so much. It is a rollercoaster of emotions, which set you off having to listen to some load mouth crass women, central character, spouting off to her man and changing her tone to suit his answers. This sets the scene. It transcends to emotions from aggressive, explosive, loud mouth obscenities to threats, fearful anxieties and every emotion you can think of and - you are laughing at it! The actors are amazing at pulling off this story, so good in fact you can see them acting it out before your very eyes. You can feel every expression, visualise every guesture. Amazing talent, good story, with great twist in the tale. Fun to listen to. Well worth your money. Enjoy

Superb voice acting from Bobby Cannavale!

Listening to this play felt like watching a movie. I have liked Bobby Cannavale in everything I have ever seen him appear in, but his passionate performance in The Motherf--ker with the Hat cemented him as a top tier actor in my mind.

The story of Jackie, a deeply flawed ex-con who seems to subconsciously sabotage every good thing in his life, was interesting throughout. Tons of drama, humor, and some thought provoking morality questions made this Audible play extremely enjoyable.

Chris Rock's performance was also stellar.

Hilarious and Unf**gettable

Where does The Motherf--ker with the Hat rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

One of the best.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Motherf--ker with the Hat?

See below...but also, the opening scene when Veronica was on the phone with her mother was astonishing.

Which scene was your favorite?

All of them. It was especially riveting when the true identity of the Motherf***er With the Hat was revealed.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Laughed at the beginning; cried at the end.

Any additional comments?

As good as watching the stage play; Bobby Canavale was to die for.
