Summary

To win the woman destined to be his bride...

Catherine Depford is the wealthiest heiress in London, and she is all but promised to a proper English lord...so why is she having dreams of a Scottish warrior claiming her for his own? She can't imagine that her heated fantasies would come true, until she locks eyes with the stranger of her dreams in a crowded ballroom.

A Scotsman will do anything.

Highland chief Gabriel MacBraedon has come to London in search of Catherine, the woman an ancient curse dictates to be his bride. But he can't very well sweep the English beauty into his arms and carry her off to Scotland in the dead of night. Or can he? Nothing is impossible when a Scotsman's passion is making the rules.

Didn’t like it.

I couldn’t finish the book. I found the relationship of Jean and Gabriel annoying. A really bad romantic love story. Quite depressing. I’m annoyed I spent so much time listening to it.

Tidious, repetitious, monotonous

The reader did great although the story is terribly thin and repeats itself over and over. I have listened to more than 15 of audibles love stories and they are are written in the same way. The female is thinking in monontonous circles of all the questions and reasons the relationship is wrong or impossible. It is quite exhausting.
I wonder if all the authers follow the same mall? I hoped it would lead to something worth my time, but unfortunately it didn’t.

Poor man's Outlander.

it's basically outlander with more magic, less kink and no Jamie, which let's face it is the only reason we read outlander

Disappointing

Great narration, story lacked in every sense! MCs were annoying and difficult to root for. Some sense hence 2 stars overall👍

Great storyline

Wonderful book. Enjoyed listening. I liked the Scots accent and the whole gothic nature of the curse and the problems the two main characters have before they finally have the happy ending on

Ridiculous

Lust, a dread curse and a stupid heroine are ia recipe for a really ridiculous romance.

Spoiled by the harsh, nasal narration.

Sadly the pleasure of this audible book was spoiled by the very harsh, and mostly ‘nasal’ voice of the narrator.
The Scottish accent which is usually so beautiful to hear was at times gratings and so shrill and high pitched that it became difficult to concentrate on the storyline.
A number of times I gave up and turned it off as it was too painful and disturbing to listen to.
Audible books are more pleasant when a lower voice is

Unusual.

A really unusual storyline makes for an interesting listen. The Scottish connection and the curse reminded me of Outlander. The main Scottish character in the book is just as full, rounded nd nice as Jamie from Outlander. This is the 2nd Audible book I have listened to by this author and I will happily 'read' more.
