Elvie McCulloch's sister, Sophie, has been missing for 57 days. She went out for a run - and never came home. Several young women in the area have disappeared in similar circumstances, and Elvie's family fears the worst.
Teaming up with retired detective Billy Hopkirk, Elvie determines to find out the truth. But as the pair alternately collaborate with and infuriate investigating police detectives Anderson and Costello, they find themselves up against a terrifying enemy. Someone they call The Night Hunter.

Different to what I expecte

Not a lot of Anderson and Costello but still an excellent book just the same. I loved it.

Disappointing

Have listened to the first three Anderson and Costello novels and given each of them five stars. This, however, can’t really be called an ‘Anderson and Costello’ novel since they are minor characters who rarely put in an appearance, let alone solve the crime. Cathleen McCarron’s narration would be fine if she had narrated the previous novels in the series but she didn’t and it’s not. Audible, please stick to the same narrator when presenting a series by the same author. After all, you wouldn’t go to the theatre and expect the cast to change after the first act would you?

Perfect audio pace. A thoughtful, gripping novel

I strongly disagree with the reviewer complaining about the narration speed. After encountering the enigmatic Elvie in another Ramsay book, I found it fitting for both the character as well as the overall atmosphere.

Great story, deeply atmospheric with unpredictable characters and interesting twists.

absolutely spell-binding to the last page

I really enjoyed this book. It was almost painfully suspenseful, and I didn't know what to expect from minute to minute. The only reason that I gave the book 4/5 is because at the end, I realized that there were some sub-plots to the story that did not seem to be fully explained. I felt that the story ended too abruptly and perhaps needed more epilogue because there were so many characters involved in the plot. The narrator is outstanding, and I would definitely recommend the book. But, I would also say to be prepared to reach the end of the story and wish you knew a bit more detail.
