Small towns, big secrets

Similar to the action in "Monster" where you know there is something in the woods, but not quite what or indeed, how badly things will go if you meet it!

Good for a rainy day.

I have read this book many times as a kid, and enjoyed the story and moral lessons. I bought this on audio so my wife and I could listen to it on a cross country roadtrip. We enjoyed it, but, admittedly it was a struggle to finish. And here is why:
The narrator has a great voice for the "reading" portions of the book, deep and resonant, and he also does well as almost any male character. I would absolutely listen to another one of the books he narrates. However, and not to be nitpicky, but anytime he tries to do an emotional female voice, the going gets painful. You basically just want every woman in the story to die, immediately, so that you dont have to listen to "the hoarse screeching".
Second, while Mr. Frank Perreti has a great plot to unfold, and I love his approach to the retelling of Christian morality, I'd say about 1/4 of the book is repitition and absolutely uneccesary. He reiterates his points over and over. This is a fiction work, not theological doctrine. Adult readers will definitely have moments of trying to urge the plot forward, and question if they just had dejavu.
All that said, still a decent book, and worth the listen/read. Especially if you are between ages 12-18.

Horror that is gripping

Horror that is gripping. Uses spiritual warfare as a springboard to a tale that acts as metaphor for the real thing.
