Summary

Penguin presents the unabridged, downloadable audiobook edition of The Organized Mind by Daniel J. Levitin, read by Luke Daniels.

Modern society is in a state of information overload. Neuroscientist Daniel J. Levitin investigates how and why our brains are struggling to keep up with the demands of the digital age.

Why is email so addictive? Is multitasking really possible? And what do successful people keep in their junk drawers?

The Organized Mind debunks myth and presents one simple idea - storing information in the physical world instead of the mind - to revolutionize 21st-century living.

In a world where information is power, The Organized Mind holds the key to harnessing that information and making it work for you.

Great insights amid a lot of information.

This was a great book and I'd recommend it to anyone. However, for myself, I was particularly interested in how to 'organise the mind to focus' but much of the book spoke about external organisation. I appreciate that external organisation helps with mind organisation, but If you're looking for applicable information, I took as many notes with short audio books such as 'how to build self discipline' as I did during the 16 hours I invested in this book. That being said, much of the information didn't relate to what I was looking for right now but was still very interesting. I'm sure others would pull valuable information from stuff I passed over. Still worth the read.

Good book that covers many aspects of Organization

The book covers various topics and aspects of organisation around and within us. Many chapters or subtopics cover interesting insight into human behaviour as well. Found it very useful.

A must read in this day and age.

An interesting, insightful book and thought provoking book. This book has inspired me to turn off my email ping and take a look in my junk draw.

Great insight into how your own mind works

Loved it. Gives a great exploration of how the mind works without extreme neurological stuff. Found that a lot of my thinking is like how this book describes and I've learnt now to embrace it.

I might buy the book.

I loved reading This is Your Brain on Music & The World in Six Songs.

I think I would prefer to read this than listen as an audio book.
Listening to this audio book is hard work, particulary with the number or URLs. There are a lot of pages I want to read again that would be easier with an actual book. There might even be a chapter about that.

It starts promising but it is rather disappointing

I can’t help feeling like the author wanted to share just too many information about too many different and unrelated topics. I truly enjoyed first chapters but once I got to the statistics& medicine it felt like I was listening to a complete different audiobook. I am just so confused about the way this book is structured... Is this book about the organised mind and the neuroscience of organising or is it trying to be about everything?

Information to live by

Really enjoyed this book. It was a bit of a struggle at times as Luke Daniels could read at a relatively monotone level. But persevering pays off as his voice actually helps you concentrate on the points Daniel Levitin makes. I feel like I need the written book now so I can highlight and annotate all the points of advice given. It's opened a new form of understanding my mind and the world we live in.

Interesting, engaging and thought provoking

Perfect for you if you are into the behavioural economics genre. Poses some interesting ideas and challenges the modern day problem of too much information.
