Summary

This is an Audible Exclusive recording of Daphne du Maurier’s, The Parasites. Narrated by Eleanor Bron, The Parasites is a novel that places emphasis on how much certain relationships can impact your own life, and the lives of those around you, and not always in a good way.
About the book
With talented parents comes the burden of continuing the line of accomplishment, as Maria, Niall and Celia know all too well. The siblings subsequently formed a bond so profound that their lives constantly have a tremendous impact on those around them, this includes Maria’s husband, Charles - a gentleman who has been sucked into the parasitic world of the Delaney’s.
About the author
Daphne du Maurier (1907-1989) was a British writer whose work is still greatly appreciated to this day. Her novel Rebecca is probably her most famous piece of literature, but she also had substantial success with her short stories. Her popularity and prowess are evident by the fact that Alfred Hitchcock chose to adapt both Rebecca as well as her short story ‘The Birds’ into feature films.
About the narrator
A public figure in the era of The Beatles, Eleanor Bron regularly brushed shoulders with the legendary band, even appearing in their film Help!. Her other credits include British soap, Coronation Street, various appearances in Absolutely Fabulous and the sixties film Women in Love

The Parasites

A rare look at life behind the footlights. Glamerous and squalid in equal proportions as well as funny and sad.

A bit disappointing

Unfortunately, not up to du Maurier's usual standard: the pace is stately and there are few excitements. It's about a theatrical family, and the three children who are allowed to run wild. Eleanor Bron is a great reader, though.

Not her best

While DuMaurier is one of my favorite authors, this book was not in her regular form. It held no suspense and was rather dull.

Inrteresting.

I enjoyed this book, although my first of her books was "Rebecca", and this doesn't quite meet my expectations after that. It was interesting to see how a disfunctional family of artists turns out as adults.
