Summary

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I - I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference. Drawing upon everyday incidents, common situations, and rural imagery, Robert Frost fashioned poetry of great lyrical beauty and potent symbolism. His language is simple, clear, and colloquial, yet dense with meaning and wider significance. This brilliant collection features some of Frost's greatest works, including "The Road Not Taken", "Into My Own", "Asking for Roses", "Mending Wall", "The Death of the Hired Man", "In the Home Stretch", "Meeting and Passing", and more. The words of this quintessential American poet come to life in the performances by Alfre Woodard, Arte Johnson, Elliott Gould, Joel Grey, Melissa Manchester, and others.

Beautifully performed masterpieces!

It was. a pleasure to discover more of the lovely poetry of one of my favorite poets. I'd memorized "Stopping by Woods" in grade school. I'd no idea what waited hidden among the rest. The Hired Man, The Impulse, and so many more jewels like hidden treasure saved for a later time in my life. Maybe I'd not have appreciated them as much as a child.

Maybe not the poems you were hoping for

Would you try another book from Robert Frost and/or the narrators?

I've been looking for a good recording of Robert Frost's poems for years. Unfortunately, this isn't it. Very few of my favorite poems are included, and many of the ones that are in the recording are dark and depressing. The narrators are mostly good, but I wouldn't specifically seek them out for other readings.

Has The Poetry of Robert Frost turned you off from other books in this genre?

No. I love recorded poetry and will continue to buy it.

What aspect of the narrators’s performance would you have changed?

For me, the background music was distracting and unnecessary. Other people might feel differently however.

Was The Poetry of Robert Frost worth the listening time?

Yes, but I doubt I'll listen to the whole thing again. Next time I'll mark the times of specific poems that I like, and skip the rest.
