Summary
Elvis Cole and Joe Pike are joined by Suspect heroes LAPD K-9 Officer Scott James and his German shepherd, Maggie, in this heart-stopping thriller from #1 New York Times bestselling author Robert Crais.
Elvis Cole and Joe Pike keep their promises. Even if it could get them killed...
Elvis Cole is hired to find a woman who’s disappeared, a seemingly ordinary case, until he learns the missing woman is an explosives expert and worked for a Defense Department contractor. Meanwhile, LAPD K-9 Officer Scott James and his patrol dog, Maggie, track a fugitive to a house filled with explosives - and a dead body. As the two cases intertwine, they all find themselves up against shadowy arms dealers and corrupt officials, and the very woman they promised to save may be the cause of their own deaths.

kept this new one until xmas and was disappointed
Robert Crais is one of my favourite authors but this book was a big disappointment. He usually has a bit more action going on but in this book he switched from Elvis to Dave to Maggie to Scott to Pike and was like pass the parcel. I couldn't get involved in the story and the characters were not fleshed out well. I found myself drifting off at times. Also! and importantly! his books are now read by different narrators. Most of his books were narrated by William Roberts? I think. He was excellent and brought the characters to life. In this book Elvis had a whining nasal voice and Pike (my favourite character) sounded like he was about to drop dead of some bronchial disease. I hope this is just a one off poor read from RC as usually he is so good.Mind you, no matter how many stars you give a review all the book in Audible seem to be 4 star anyway

Brilliant
Another great story that really put you there with Cole and Pike in the thick of it. and the usual genius twist towards the end.

Crais delivers a page turner
A well worked punchy plot with twists and turns and the usual Elvis Cole panache - thoroughly enjoyed it !!

Great to listen to
I love Robert Crais and I thought the two voices did an excellent job of the narration.
I like the inter-textuality of bringing in characters from his other books, especially Maggie.

Rattling Good Read
Not as good as Taken but still recommended. A more laconic reader required for Elvis Cole.

Another superb Robert Crais
What other book might you compare The Promise to, and why?
This is the usual super high standard of Robert Crais and sits comfortably in the world of Elvis Cole & Joe Pike, if you like the previous novels you'll love this.
Any additional comments?
A 5 star review except for narration which comes in at 4 stars only because no one can match the usual Robert Crais narrator WIlliam Roberts. Although the 2 narrators do a good job they don't quite inhabit and add to the characters as William Roberts does.

A really excellent book
If you could sum up The Promise in three words, what would they be?
Interesting, exciting engaging
Who was your favorite character and why?
It is really very hard to choose but I suppose it is Joe Pike. He is complex but interesting character.
Have you listened to any of Luke Daniels and MacLeod Andrews ’s other performances? How does this one compare?
No this was my first but will not be my last.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The conversation between John Stones and Amy before the law enforcement types move in.
Any additional comments?
I loved the book, the plots and the characters.

A great combo
Three of Craig’s hero’s came together and performed magnificently- not forgetting Maggie the dog, that makes four heroes
