Summary

Mark Randall lay dead in a field near Lowacre long before Smith had done what he had to do in Belfast. By the time he went back to work, the investigation was well underway. "It's not my case," he says more than once, and he really doesn't need it to be; he has enough to think about as it is. But going around the Norfolk countryside dotting the i's and crossing the t's, speaking to the local farmers and the Brothers of St. Francis from Abbeyfields, Smith begins to suspect that the investigation might be heading in entirely the wrong direction. Arrests are made, charges are brought, and Christopher Waters asks Smith if he has ever seen the wrong man convicted in a murder case. The answer is yes, and the next question is, what can be done to prevent it from happening again?

Another great DC Smith take

I felt the plot on this one was a bit more obvious but liked the fact that Smith was not the lead on the case. Ongoing great development of character and back story which makes me want to read on.

Great listen

Really love the way these books are written and the perfect narrative. Sadly I feel these books are coming to an end so will make the most of them and find other Peter Grainger books

bloody marvellous!

Really hard to fault any of the books in this series so far .All of the have been original and very different. The characters have been more solid with each book . Some parts are really funny and the feeling of sadness from DC runs through every book. ONTO THE NEXT

Great.

I am loving this series of Sargeant 'DC' Smith books. This one had DC getting the right culprit, where his colleagues charged two others wrongly. The narration was first class.

Another thoughtful cracker

I love the language and DC’s thoughtful, relentless approach. I sincerely hope that retirement is a long way off.

I love DC’s wry character

The narrator does really well but a couple of his accents are a bit iffy and there are a couple of non-pc references

another brilliant performance/story

DC Smith!! he's the sort of policeman you hope and pray will be in charge, if ever you are involved in a crime, particularly a murder. But then again, would you want your fathef, for that is what you'd like him to be, mixed up in criminal subterfuge and skulduggery!? Lots of both in yet another brilliant episode of an excellent series. Don't be put off by the narrative voice at the beginning! It's definitely just as I would like to believe DC's voice, exactly sounds like!!!
