Summary

The first rule of Sunday Lunch Club is...don't make any afternoon plans.

Every few Sundays, Anna and her extended family and friends get together for lunch. They talk, they laugh, they bicker, they eat too much. Sometimes the important stuff is left unsaid, other times it's said in the wrong way.

Sitting between her ex-husband and her new lover, Anna is coming to terms with an unexpected pregnancy at the age of 40. Also at the table are her ageing grandmother, her promiscuous sister, her flamboyantly gay brother and a memory too terrible to contemplate.

Until, that is, a letter arrives from the person Anna scarred all those years ago. Can Anna reconcile her painful past with her uncertain future?

Juliet Ashton weaves a story of love, friendship and community that will move you to laughter and to tears. Think Cold Feet meets David Nicholls, with a dash of the joy of Jill Mansell added for good measure.

I just loved this book

This book kept me going up and down to the Lakes to see my sick mother. It was absolutely brilliant. I completely identified with those characters. I’m so sorry it’s finished!

Easy, light hearted, predictable

I picked this as a chance to crime novels. It was a lighthearted and easy listen for sure and I wouldn’t say I didn’t enjoy it as I did. However it was very predictable, twee in parts and WAY too many minority groups trying to be covered in one book and by one family!! Narrator was good and did the characters justice though.

Very predictable, but unresolved plot lines

Everyone in the book is lovely, their lives are mildly troubling, etc etc. I tuned out of some parts because they were so dull. Only interesting story was that of the siblings' parents, but this plotline wasn't followed particularly.

Sorry not for me

Liked the narration the story was predictable

There couldn't be more of issues crammed into one story. From divorce single parenthood casual sex, teenage pregnancy transgender rec, gay marriage, gay cuple adoption, pregnancy, reconciliation with abandoned child, aging, care home, even rescue puppies.... it's just soo much

Bit boring

Found this a bit of a struggle to listen to and a bit cliche and predictable in places.

Meh...

It’s okay. Nothing ground breaking.

The narrator is mostly quite good but really couldn’t do the accents required without resorting to rather clichéd sing-sing vocal inflections.

It’s okay, not a genre I usually enjoy but there are some solid offerings out there (so I chanced it, mostly based on the write-up) this isn’t one of them, though. There’s nothing awful or offensive about it, just... meh.

I couldn't finish it

I really tried to finish but the characters are so one dimensional and bland it was impossible. I really didn't care what happened! Bored me to tears. Don't bother, the writing is very clunky and the 'twist' practically reveals itself half way through. I am glad it was deal of the day so I didn't waste a credit on it or pay full price. Just awful.
