Summary
Humanity is losing the war. The once-mighty space navies have been crippled, officers and crew have been stretched to the limit and Earth herself has come under heavy attack. The end cannot be long delayed. For Admiral Smith and the crew of HMS Ark Royal, the stakes have never been so high. The one hope is to make contact with alien factions that might oppose the war. But, as Ark Royal sets off on a desperate diplomatic mission, it rapidly becomes clear that there are both human and alien factions that wish to fight the war to the bitter end - and that her previous missions have sown the seeds of success...or total failure.

A very good series of books
I have enjoyed these books. The characters and the Aliens have been engaging and we'll thought out. I look forward to more books in this series.

Hooked in and glad of it!
I’ve been enjoying the Ark Royal series for some years but decided I wanted to go back and re-enjoy while I had time. A series of long driving demands meant I could put these on and get back to the beginning of the series and story. This episode of the Ark Royal saga is better than the previous two, which were also excellent, and wraps up the trilogy nicely - no spoilers!

Great series.
Totally hooked on this series. As a person with a military background I can really relate to the story and circumstances within the book.

Great Listen
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
On starting Book 1 the story is a little slow and stretched. On one or two occasions I was tempted to dump this book but I am so glad I prevailed with the story.
I have now purchased Books 2 & 3.
What other book might you compare The Trafalgar Gambit to, and why?
Nothing really. But it is unusual to find a SF plot based around the British viewpoint and although slow at the beginning the story moved much faster and in an engaging way.
Have you listened to any of Ralph Lister’s other performances? How does this one compare?
Not to my knowledge but this was a good solid performance.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
There were several scattered throughout the 3 books.
Any additional comments?
I would buy a fourth book if it was publlished.

I'm enjoying the series
Loving the series so far, I feel the people in the review section are being a tad dramatic though haha
It's a good book, and as for the ending without leaving spoilers I'd say it was a fitting end also sad .

A nice finish if a little forced.
A good finish to the first arch. However some elements seem to be a little rush near the end. This doesn't detract from the book or story line much at all though.

Slightly different direction from books 1 &2
Slightly different direction from books 1 & 2 but still extremely entertaining. There are many, many shades of Space: Above & Beyond but from a British standpoint. A great read for anyone who enjoyed either of those sets.
