Snatching Victory form the Jaws of Defeat!

A thoroughly engrossing account of the hassle of preparing for Christmas which interweaves the story of two women, Beth and Carol, as they both seek to make Christmas wonderful for those they love. A story full of warmth; mixing poignancy and happiness together into a marvellous climax.

Great read

As a Christmas lover I couldn't resist getting this book when I saw it, and it didn't let me down. The story of how different women's lives entwine, and detailing their struggles to achieve "the perfect Christmas".

Witty and touching all the way through

This story relates of some ordinary people experiencing familiar tricky situations. The atmosphere is really touching. A lot of wit in the writting and the narator reads it really well.

i know its early

Any additional comments?

this was the next book on my list and I really enjoyed it.
starting with a countdown from September to Christmas day, there were tips on how to get through the planning to the perfect Christmas.
carol trying to bring new life to a failing womens monthly magazine and beth trying to live up to Jacob's previous wife are my favourite characters.as well as the little boy tim.
there were little bits of humour sprinkled through the book
all the characters were well written and kim hicks performance added to the enjoyment.
I haven't listened to many stories set at Christmas, apart from a Christmas carol of course, but this comes after a proper family Christmas by june gorden-cumming.

Dire

Would you try another book written by Annie Sanders or narrated by Kim Hicks?

After around 30 minutes of 'listening' I realised I had completely switched off as I totally failed to engage with either the characters, nor the narrator. I gamely went back twice more, but became utterly lost in the froth of utterly 2-dimensional people whose superficial lives held no attraction whatsoever. The narrator had a very limited range of poor accents and, other than one being so comically patronising, completely to differentiate between the key players. A free download which was a waste of my time.

Light hearted and easy listening

I always find the narrator can make or break a book no matter how good the story is and kim Hicks does a really good job with this one. Its light hearted but enough of a story to make you want to keep listening but not to heavy. I fully recommend it .

A warm story for Christmas

A little obvious in places but on the whole a good tale and a nice reading.

A light hearted tale

This was an easy listen (apart from the narrator's awful Liverpudlian accent!). The story is very light with mainly likeable characters but a number of unlikely co-incidences to draw the story together. Not going to win any awards, but if you want something that's easy on the ear and of a chick lit styling this will appeal.
