Summary

If only I hadn't kidnapped the dog...but the ransom paid the mortgage.... Now I seem to be a private eye.... I shouldn't have listened to that ghost....

Meet Sarah Booth Delaney...an unconventional Southern belle whose knack for uncovering the truth is about to make her the hottest detective in Zinnia, Mississippi...if it doesn't make her the deadest. No self-respecting lady would allow herself to end up in Sarah Booth's situation. Unwed, unemployed, and over 30, she's flat broke and about to lose the family plantation. Not to mention being haunted by the ghost of her great-great-grandmother's nanny, who never misses an opportunity to remind her of her sorry state - or to suggest a plan of action, like ransoming her friend's prize pooch to raise some cash.

But soon Sarah Booth's walk on the criminal side leads her deeper into unladylike territory, and she's hired to solve a murder. Did gorgeous, landed Hamilton Garrett V really kill his mother 20 years ago? And if so, what is Sarah Booth doing falling for this possible murderer? When she asks one too many questions and a new corpse turns up, she is suddenly a suspect herself...and Sarah Booth finds that digging up the bones of the past could leave her rolling over in her grave.

Rattle them bones

First the readers voice was excellent the diction was clear and surprising pleasant in fact soothing is the best word I can use I find some narrators can have a strident voice or one that grates on your nerves but I was happily surprised by this nice lady

Secondly the story was fascinating and drew me in from the first chapter I felt like I was there in the rooms with Sarah booth watching the scenes unfold the author uses such evocative imagery as a first book in the series I was surprised to say the least. The mystery unfolded slowly but with real panache with many red herrings and had me guessing to the end. I’m not going to outline the story as I don’t want to ruin the surprising twists and turns for anyone it’s such a pleasure to listen to them unfold. I like the book so much I’m now listening to book 2 in the series Burried Bones and it’s just as good

Thirdly I will definitely look for more books by this author is you like a good cosy mystery told with both wit and enjoy the glamour and the underbelly of southern life then these are the books for you. If you just want a consulted and complicated mystery that leaves you guessing then again this books is hands down one of the best

Sit back and enjoy
