Summary

Rowan and Citra take opposite stances on the morality of the Scythedom, putting them at odds, in the chilling sequel to the Printz Honor Book Scythe from New York Times best seller Neal Shusterman, author of the Unwind dystology.

The Thunderhead cannot interfere in the affairs of the Scythedom. All it can do is observe — it does not like what it sees.

A year has passed since Rowan had gone off grid. Since then, he has become an urban legend, a vigilante snuffing out corrupt scythes in a trial by fire. His story is told in whispers across the continent.

As Scythe Anastasia, Citra gleans with compassion and openly challenges the ideals of the "new order". But when her life is threatened and her methods questioned, it becomes clear that not everyone is open to the change.

Will the Thunderhead intervene?

Or will it simply watch as this perfect world begins to unravel?

A must listen

Perfectly builds on the world and characters set up in the first book. The pacing is excellent. It feels cinematic and stays with you long after you finish reading. It has the ability to shock even the most seasoned of YA book readers.

really enjoying these books

Great story and concept. A little dark at times, but never uncomfortably so. The narration is clear and sensitive to the characters.

And now from the perspective of an AI

if the first book thought a lot about the dangers of moral certainty, this one questions the danger of trusting society to the moral certainty of an AI, which repeatedly assimilates the language of emotion while considering itself above such things. This paradox allows the author to wrong-foot even the most cynical of readers more than once and Schusterman takes the opportunity with the help of a stunning narrative cadence from Tremblay.

Another masterpiece

And I thought the first installment was good... wow. Amazing sequel, it managed to capture the same atmosphere as the first book, and elevate the stakes and the suspense to new heights. I loved the concept how the inner soul of the Thunderhead was introduced through its interaction with the best and worst of humanity, and the snippets of its thought at the end of each chapter. The new protagonist was masterfully wowen into the fabric of the story, and Greg Tremblay's excellent performance managed to bring everyone's personality to life. I'm on my way of becoming a Shusterman, Tremblay fan boy, I can already tell :D

Unbelievable !

The author Neal Shusterman got an amazing imagination and the way he puts it in writing is amazing.
Bacteria and Humanity DNA is kind of a computer program which is to keep reproduce as much as possible which will bring its demise at the end.
Not even an Artificial Intelligence can solve this problem as author after author have tried to by writing books about it but keep falling.
The one answer was traveling to new planets but the world is already on the brink of another disaster like the dinosaurs had so we missed the train as the saying goes. So no Artificial Intelligence and not our brain can solve this in time.
Democracy, dictatorship, communism or other systems that humanity have tried didn’t work, infect we only made it worst by doubling people life expectancy, what we have not tried is limiting people age to like 60 before extermination which might work for a while but once again the privilege will find a way to bypass this rule.
WE ARE DOOMED.

Typed this really fast so my apologies for any misspelling or mistakes.

Beautiful narration by Greg Tremblay for every character in this creation.

Absolutely
without a doubt

Really exciting world expansion from the previous story, and opens up nicely to the final book!
