Summary

While the crew of the UN Expeditionary Force's pirate starship Flying Dutchman are enjoying a luxury vacation cruise (not!), UNEF troops are still stranded on an alien-controlled planet.

Major Emily Perkins and her team are busy picking up the pieces, and it's not easy, because there is trouble on Paradise...

Oh what a dum, dum l was!

I had completed the last book (3) and went straight onto 3.5 and after five minutes l was so confused. What had happened? Had l missed a chapter or two? It has taken me to chapter three to realized, well l didn't notice um it was an email letting me know there is a fourth book in the brilliant series which l of course purchase straight away and then l had my dum, dum moment. oh boy, yes it was a fine dum dum moment. Now l am happy and fully get why, this book is solely about Paradise and what a brilliant way to get up to speed what everything especially as this is really where this whole story started for me and my imagination toke flight and now, to hear how relationships have develop, how the climate is always changing and it answering questions that l had from book one, yes a brilliant idea! But l am still missing the almighty, annoying, witty beer can 😀

Good

Good. Plus fourteen more words because the stupid review system won't let me say just 'good'!

Good filler between books

Story not as good as main series but is a good filler between the main story.

Superb again

The series goes from strength to strength. This novel is a step away from dashing around space using wormhole tech and becomes a ground-battle novel - very welcome to see as it means that the series can continue in another direction as well! Apprehensive at the beginning of Columbus Day where I suspected this might be a series of gung-ho imperialism novels, my fears were soon put aside. With a great mix of military action, pseudo-science and strategy, Craig Alanson's meticulous explanations and descriptions are mixed with humour and a bit of self-deprecation that make his characters essentially human and resourceful.

Enjoyable but could have been so much more

I enjoyed this book- it’s a good story and a welcome break from the skippy banter. It could so easily have been made into an epic size read so in some ways I felt slightly cheated for using a full credit on this- my choice I guess but still feel the same. I would suggest more x.5 books but price or size accordingly pls.

loved it

I'm glad the author took the time to talk about Paradise and what was happening in this sequence of the story!! I hope Paradise and the outcome of what happened continues in the overall arc as it feels like the characters have become a major part of series.
