Summary
Back on the job after an involuntary leave of absence, LAPD homicide detective Harry Bosch is ready for a challenge - but a murderous Las Vegas crime ring might prove to be more than he bargained for.
It starts with the body of a Hollywood producer in the trunk of a Rolls-Royce, shot twice in the head at close range - what looks like "trunk music", a Mafia hit. But the LAPD's organized crime unit is curiously uninterested, and when Harry follows a trail of gambling debts to Las Vegas, the case suddenly becomes more complex - and much more personal.
A rekindled romance with an old girlfriend opens new perspectives on the murder, and he begins to glimpse a shocking triangle of corruption and collusion. Yanked off the case, Harry himself is soon the one being investigated. But only a bullet can stop Harry when he's searching for the truth.
Critic reviews
"Dick Hill is well versed in Bosch's style after two audiobooks in the series. Hill delivers the squad room banter and the interviews with suspects and witnesses with perfection....Bosch is immensely likeable, and Hill defines his character memorably." (AudioFile)

Another fantastic book, brilliantly narrated. If you're following this series, Trunk Music won't disappoint you.
Just can't fault Michael Connelly's writing and the characters he creates. This is thoroughly entertaining.

Harry bosch
you can't help like Harry Bosch, he's so out spoken, and his rougeish attitude gets him in hot water often.

This is just so good
I was was looking for a replacement for Jack Reacher/Lee Child books as I had read them all and I came across Michael Connelly. This is the fifth book I've read so far and each one is getting better and better not the first one wasn't excellent because it was but this book was very good if you like the Bosch TV series and/or Lee Child as an author and are looking for a good series to get your teeth/ears(?) stuck into then Michael Connolly is easily his peer and well worth checking out

Satisfying as ever...
Michael Connelly takes you on Harry’s life journey with him. I’m re-visiting this series and they are as excellent as the first time around.

Excellent...
I do find Harry Bosch irritating at times... his irascible nature can become wearying - but at least he is consistent. Having now completed the first five books in the series I have come to really enjoy the stories. The first was narrated by Titus Welliver - who did a great job - the next four, including this, Dick Hill - also really excellent. One thing I really enjoy is the unpredictability of what happens next. Maybe it's just me (not good at guessing) but the stories do switch back in terms of who did what. I am also a little surprised at the involvement of law enforcement themselves in quite so many dodgy goings on.
If you enjoy what are effectively whodunnits - with great characters and lots of depth - not to mention a big catalogue of tales to catch up on - Mr. Bosch is your man.
Next up Angels Flight - though I am a little concerned that we have a change in narrator...
