Summary

Meet Amy Winter: Detective Inspector, daughter of a serial killer.

DI Amy Winter is hoping to follow in the footsteps of her highly respected police officer father. But when a letter arrives from the prison cell of Lillian Grimes, one half of a notorious husband-and-wife serial-killer team, it contains a revelation that will tear her life apart.

Responsible for a string of heinous killings decades ago, Lillian is pure evil. A psychopathic murderer. And Amy’s biological mother. Now, she is ready to reveal the location of three of her victims - but only if Amy plays along with her twisted game.

While her fellow detectives frantically search for a young girl taken from her mother’s doorstep, Amy must confront her own dark past. Haunted by blurred memories of a sister who sacrificed herself to save her, Amy faces a race against time to uncover the missing bodies.

But what if, from behind bars, Grimes has been pulling the strings even tighter than Amy thought? And can she overcome her demons to prevent another murder?

Excellent book

Right up my street. Smacks of rose and Fred West.
Can’t wait for book 2.
Just change the narrator please. Only persevered because the book was so good!

Great listen

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and disagree with previous reviews about the narrator, I thought it was read very well.

Annoying and unbelievable

So much about this book annoyed me! The absurd obsession with the cat. The stark divide between stereotypical sinners and saints (even though a few characters were more complex, most were just stereotypes). The ridiculous twists at the end. And of course the classic "detective goes into dangerous situation alone and inexplicably decides not to call for backup". This will be my first and last book by this author.

Wrong narrater

Far fetched with unlikeable characters. The narrater also wasn’t right for the story. A shame, as the story could really have worked with some tweaks.

A gripping tale with a surprise at the end!

those of us who recall the infamous husband and wife serial killer the Wests, this story brings home the tragedy wreaked upon victim's families.
Brilliantly told!

Too unrealistic and awful narration

The story felt rushed and I didn't feel a connection to any of the characters as they didn't seem properly developed. There were too many attempts at attention grabbing turns that fell flat. The narrator didn't feel suitable for the story either, so I would absolutely not recommend this one.

Dreadful Narration.

I gave up trying to tolerate the dire narration, after one chapter. Just awful, I'm afraid.
The story may have been brilliant, but I will never know.

Great Book

This is a very good book full of twists and turns, and kept me interested all the way through. I also felt the narration was spot on!

Cliched and predictable

Awful narrator and awful writing! I actually laughed out loud at some -unintentionally funny - lines i.e. “he smiled to reveal a row of white teeth’ What the hell else would a smile reveal? A row of green jelly babies?!? A load of old rubbish tbh. Dont waste your money

Enjoyable

maybe a wee bit far fetched in the storyline but enjoyed it. Narrator was ok but many of the characters sounded the same
