Publisher's Summary

Alice is 11 years old, and it is wartime. She is on a train with no seats, no lights, and no sanitary facilities. Her parents and her grandmother are missing, and Alice doesn't know where she is going. Maybe she will get to play outside again, or maybe she will see her parents. But as the train rolls on, Alice begins to realize that just when you think things can't possibly get any worse, they do.

What the Critics Say

"Do we need another book about the Holocaust? Yes, if it is as good as this one. This is not a book for [young] children, but teens and adults will find it compelling." (Booklist)

Very moving

Just noticed that no one had rated this book, and it seemed such a pity as it is excellently written and read.
You know from the beginning that there is going to be no happy ending, and the viewpoint of the young girl is very well done
