Set in an imagined past, this dark fantasy-adventure is for fans of Philip Pullman's The Golden Compass. Features Jemma, a fiery-headed heroine held captive in Agromond Castle, yet destined to save mist-shrouded Anglavia.
Fiery-headed Jemma Agromond is not who she thinks she is, and when the secrets and lies behind her life at mist-shrouded Agromond Castle begin to unravel, she finds herself in a chilling race for her life. Ghosts and misfits, a stone and crystals, a mysterious book, an ancient prophecy - all these reveal the truth about Jemma's past and a destiny far greater and more dangerous than she could have imagined in her wildest fantasies.
With her telepathic golden rats, Noodle and Pie, and her trusted friend, Digby, Jemma navigates increasingly dark forces, as helpers both seen and unseen, gather. But in the end, it is her own powers that she must bring to light, for only she has the key to defeating the evil ones and fulfilling the prophecy that will bring back the sun and restore peace in Anglavia.

What did you like most about The Flame in the Mist?

Everything! The main character is an extradonary person. She is resourceful, brave, and also sympathetic to those who are weak. She is completely human, with human weaknesses, but with the strength to rise above that to overcome and defeat evil.

What did you like best about this story?

The victory of good over evil, light over the darkness of hate

Which character – as performed by Rosalyn Landor – was your favourite?

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes: when Gemma knew she had to leave everything she loved, that made her feel safe, and go back to fight the evil that held her captive for so many years, and she still had the strength of character, the courage to go, in spite of her own fear And also in the end, when she conquered the evil inside her to fight the terrible evil threatening everything she loved and valued.

Any additional comments?

I do not usually comment on a book I listen to, but this book was really special. I hope there will be moremfrom the same author, and of the same high quality.

A great listen for any age

I originally had this audio book on disk after finding it at a thrift store and listened with my mom while on the road. It is a young adult story that leads you on a fast paced adventure that never feels rushed. At times it's exciting and at times it's even scary but it's always enjoyable. Many times I found myself gripped by the events of the book. The characters are fun and have real emotion behind them, we cared what happened to them.

The narrator did a great job with the voices and gave the story real flavor. I can see how this might not be everyone's favorite story but it was an adventure I could share with my mom and for me that is always means a great book. Definitely give this novel a try if you are looking for something new. Especially if you are a fan of YA novels.

It's a diamond in the rough and deserves more attention! side note the cover art for the book was painted by the phenomenal Chris Rahn! The cover got me interested but the book is now a household favorite and worth a second purchase for me.
